Can we connect an SVideo source (like a vcr) and make connect treat that as a webcam input?

so long as the computer recognizes it as a video input device, then yes. You would need a video capture card for the computer or a hardware tool that converts the video feed from the VCR to a USB/Fire wire input into the computer.
