Will video-rich presentation bog down network?

We'd like to use Presenter to create an e-learning course that includes 30-40 minutes of talking head and two imbedded (on slides) video clips of about 3 minutes. This will not be served on a Connect server, but as a download on the corporate WAN on an ordinary web server.

Is this practical?

Will the user have to download the entire presentation before starting to play, and, if so, what kind of file size are we looking at -- 500MB range perhaps?

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Re: Will video-rich presentation bog down network?

The size of the video (and hence the presentation) would largely be dependent on the quality chosen while importing/recording the video. If you are importing flv/swf then there is no conversion and hence the size would remain the same as the original file.

Presenter requests for videos only when the respective slide is shown. Moreover, the video is not needed to be downloaded completely before it starts to play (yes I know we are talking about non-Connect setup here).

So, you should be good for a WAN setup. BTW which 'ordinary' web server are we takling about here? Apache and IIS are far more that ordinary and should definitely be able to take that much load.

Re: Will video-rich presentation bog down network?

The way presenter plays is it loads the first three slides while you see the "Loading" screen and then begins preloading an additional slide in the back ground every 3 seconds. So if you have a bandwidth heavy presentation (500K/s) then if your users have a low bandwidth connection then they may get a buffering message and a pause in the presentation periodically, but it should work just fine.
