Synchronized Accounts not updating

We have user accounts in Connect 9 that are synced with our LDAP.  On occasion, these women will get married or un-married and their last name gets changed in the Active Directory.  On the next sync, Connect will see this as a new account (because the name changes along with the email address) and create essentially a duplicate account.  Is there a setting or practice we could use to prevent this?  Thanks in advance...couldn't really see anything about this in the forum topics.
