Experiences and Lessons Learnt with Adobe 8.0 installation/Configs

Hi,

We are planning to move from AC7.5SP1 to Adobe8.0. I am wondering if somebody can share their experiences/lessons learnt while installating/configuring Adobe 8.

Things which should be taken care of, Issues in Adobe8.0, best practices etc.

Please share.

Please check the installation and migration guide before going ahead with migration. That should give you good insight.

Re: Experiences and Lessons Learnt with Adobe 8.0 installation/Configs

Hi Purnima,

When we installed 7.5.1 we had some issues beyond the installation and migration guide e.g. Open SSL didn't work for us and we had to implement STunnel.

Having said that, I am looking for some real time issues and resolutions, some tips and tricks which should be taken care of in advance.

Thanks!

Re: Experiences and Lessons Learnt with Adobe 8.0 installation/Configs

Connect_User,
If I was you I would wait for the V8 SP1 to be released.  There are far too many bugs with the main release tha twe have noticed in our test environment.  One example would be templates do not save information in them which is a major pain for our environment.  Also, not all information is displaying inside meeting rooms correctly.  During the middle of a presentation the view will blank out for both the presenter and the users.

This definitely seems like a rushed release if you ask me.

I would be glad to share all  the bugs I have encountred.

Problems we have experienced in Connect 8.
Each of the problems below has been experienced between 1/15 and 2/1/2011

Meetings
Share pods advancing by themselves (not set on play)
Blacked out share pods which cannot be re-synced
Share pods which show different content to hosts than presenters (sync is on)
Meeting rooms refusing to honor hosts from participant list
Share pods showing only the background of the slide to some participants
Meeting rooms refusing to honor upgrades to hosts
Share pods falling out of sync for everyone
Meetings turning guest access on and auto accepting entry requests
Meetings allowing participants to

Thanks a lot everybody.

I will discuss with my team and find out if we can wait for SP1 and then install.

Thanks once again!

Is there any idea when SP1 could be available?

How long was it between SP's with the previous version?

As per Adobe Support it should be available in April May time frame. Though the exact dates will be available only after Adobe Announces it officially.

Between 7.5 and 7.5 SP1 there was a gap of around 4 months i guess.

Re: Experiences and Lessons Learnt with Adobe 8.0 installation/Configs

Geez jcooper9099, we have been on V8 for months and have not found most of the issues you mention.
I wonder why some of your scyn'd issues are being caused from the Action Script code. Connect 8 prefers AS3 however I (and others) have noticed that most AS2 sync'd swfs work (but should be tested)

If upgrading to 8, remember that everyone then also needs to upgrade to Flash Player 10. You might want to do this step first (there is also a new plug-in with v8)
