Hosted Account, login without password

The adobe connect 7.5 API states "If you are a hosted customer, you can use certain parameters with the login action to avoid sending user IDs and passwords over the Internet" I am unable to find any other documentation on this in the API, has anyone out there managed to get the login working without sending these parameters? 

There seems to be a uri for external auth (https://example.com/api/xml?action=login&external-auth=use and setting the x-user-id header for the login) but the API states "With a Acrobat Connect Pro hosted account, you cannot use single sign-on or external authentication".
