Older Captivate presentations won't open.

So in an attempt to open them I get this:


"Do you want to override file or save as file"

Only Captivate 4 will create the .bak file for you. That feature was added in version 4.

The fact you say that you are unable to open the files in the original version is more than a bit disturbing. This would seem to imply the files are corrupt. If this is the case, I would ask if you are following the two golden rules for Captivate projects.

1. Never work on your project while it is on a network drive. Storing a backup on the network is fine, you just don't want to open Captivate, then navigate to a network location to open a project and begin making edits.

2. Consider that 50-65 slides is your guideline for a maximum slide count. Sometimes you can get away with as many as 100-150, but those cases are rather rare.

One way to try and recover things would be to create a new blank project in Captivate that is sized identically to the broken project. Then try and use File > Import > Slides/Objects and see if you can import the broken project into a new one. Sometimes this works.
