Hide Cummulative Score and/or No Ability to retake quiz

Hello:

Trying to get something done with On-Premise Connect v7.5 Training.

We cannot identify a way to keep users from taking a test, closing it, seeing their score, opening the quiz again, adjusting answers, and then closing it again to see if their score has increased. Even after we changed the Max Attempts to one, users can still click close the test, click Review, change answers, and have that positively affect their score.

We cannot find any way to either a) prevent users from taking the quiz more than once or b) hide their resulting score. What I need is the ability to have someone take a test, and not have them be able to tell what their score is as their taking it. Is this not an issue that

Re: Hide Cummulative Score and/or No Ability to retake quiz

This sounds like you have the maximum number of attempts set to Unlimited. In the 1 step of the Course creation wizard (or edit information once it has been created) you have a box for the maximum number of attempts for the course. The default is that the box is blank and therefore gives the user the ability to take the course over and over again until they pass. It does track the number of attempts they used, but if you don't want that functionality, just put a number in that box and click save. Setting this to 1 will only allow them to access the training and quiz in a track-able form once, pass or fail, and they will not be able to modify their scores.

If you used the content creation's tool settings for access to the quiz, you may have inadvertently allowed the user to access the quiz too many times or in a manner that you did not want. The best way to achieve control over access to the content is to do it all from the server side. Meaning, in the settings within your content creation tool, set the number of attempts for your quiz to 1, then from the server side you can dictate how many times they are allowed to access the content and the quiz with in it.

How it works out: with the quiz access set to 1 attempt from the content creation tool, and the number of attempts set to 3 on the server side, the user will be able to access the content and take the quiz, if they pass, then that is their only track-able run through the content. If they fail it, it is tracked as a failure and an attempt. They can then re-access the content through the server for another attempt, where their progress is tracked.

If you set the quiz access to multiple attempts (say 3) through the content creation tool, and the number of attempts to 3 on the server side, then you have allowed your user 9 attempts at taking the quiz. This is because they can show up the first time, fail it, take it again, fail and take it one more time, and fail it. The content will report it to the server as a single failure, and then they can access it two more times and go through the same process.

When you change the number of attempts on the content creation side, what you are doing is adjusting the reporting level for your quiz. It will only report when the user passes or fails it the number of times you allow them to access the quiz.

Does that make sense and/or help?

Re: Hide Cummulative Score and/or No Ability to retake quiz

I will check with my customer. I think their issue is if the course has 10 questions, the student can answer 5 of them, close out, log back in, and the system will tell them how many of the 5 questions they got correct. Then, they can go back in and answer again on those 5 questions and correct the ones they got wrong.

Are you saying this can be controlled with the content creation tool? Or, is it only once the user has completed all 10 questions and then they can't go back in if the max attempt is set to "1"?

Can Captivate require that the student answer all questions at once and not allow them to quit? Or, if they quit, none of their answers are saved and they have to start over?

Thanks

Re: Hide Cummulative Score and/or No Ability to retake quiz

The original question was asked on our behalf.  We're using Captivate 4 to produce course materials and exams.

The issue isn't related to maximum attempts because the system doesn't register an attempt unless the learner has actually completed the exam.  The problem we're facing is that someone can answer some questions, close the exam, see their cumulative score, fix their answer and repeat the process over and over again.  They would be able to do this for every question except the last one regardless of what we set maximum attempts to.

We have checked the "never send.." option to eliminate the bookmarking feature, but that doesn't seem to work and wouldn't actually solve the problem because they would still see their cumulative score and could just start over.
