System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

As Adobe Connect 9 release date gets closer, we want to make sure you are aware of the following few system requirements changes as early as possible so that you have enough time to prepare for them:

1) A new Adobe Connect add-in will be required. The new add-in will be based on a later version of Flash Player and provide better performance. The new add-in will also enable our developer community to create custom pods targeting Flash Player 10. The add-in will be made available 30 to 60 days ahead of the release.

2) Flash Player 10.3 or higher will be required to attend meetings in the browser and will provide better performance.

3) The Internet Explorer 6 browser will no longer be supported as worldwide usage has dropped significantly. Microsoft is aggressively encouraging users to upgrade as it plans to stop supporting the Internet Explorer 6 browser soon.

4) The new add-in will not be supported on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), as Apple has deprecated the screen sharing APIs. Leopard users will still be able to attend meetings in the browser.

5) There is no add-in for Ubuntu 10.04 Linux.  Users on Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat and OpenSUSE) will still be able to attend meetings in the browser.  The new add-in for Ubuntu Linux is planned in the first service pack after the new Adobe Connect release.

We are looking forward to an exciting Adobe Connect 9 release.  Should these changes create any concern, please drop us a comment in this thread, or contact our support team.

Thanks

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

Hello,

Thank you for your information.

I have one question. Will Windows 2003 R2 be supported as Connect 9 server OS?

Best regards,
Yasushi

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

These appear to be client side requirements. Do you have a list of server side requirements?

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

Sanjay,

The server requirements for Connect 9 appear to be outdated.   The requirements for CQ are more current in some areas than the Connect server.  For Connect see below:

Universal Voice using Flash Media Gateway - still specifies Windows Server 2003 (32 bit).  There's no reference to Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2

Adobe Connect Server OS -  It lists Windows Server 2003 and 2008.  What about Server 2008 R2?  We've been running Connect 8 on Server 2008 R2 for quite some time.

Database -  Specifies SQL Server 2005 and 2008.  Does Adobe formally support SQL Server 2008 R2?

Virtual Environments -  Is there support for VSphere 5?  We already run a Connect 8 VM in VSphere 5.

Hardware requirements -

memory - 4 GB RAM.  In practice, Connect 8 works better with 8 GB RAM.   Adobe should consider qualifying this requirement for Connect 9.

Thanks,
Sergio

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

Hi Sergio,

Thanks for your feedback. The server requirements for Connect 9 were inadvertently updated incorrectly. We are in the process of updating them with the correct changes.

Thanks,

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

Hi Sergio,

Connect 9 supports Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. We plan to officially support vSphere 5 in the near future.

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

Do you know if the change in specs have affected the user experience? We are getting a lot of problems with users experiencing poor play back.

Does anyone know of othe rusers having problems? Recordings start/play for a few moments/then restart.

Re: System Requirements Changes in Adobe Connect 9

What about 64 bit support? Do the Connect 'services' such as ConnectProSvc and FMSCore run as 64 bit processes? I see that in Connect 8 the run as 'ConnectProSvc*32' etc. We want to take advantage of increased system resources, especially RAM, available to 64 bit systems. Thanks!
