Cannot create text area field on meetings?

Guys,

Anyone confirm my suspicion that I cannot create a custom field on a meeting and give it a text area field type?

Calling

custom-field-update
&account-id=<id>
&object-type=object-type-meeting
&permission-id=manage
&name=NoShows
&field-type=textarea
&is-required=false
&is-primary=false
&session=<ilikecookies>

creates a field for me.  The custom-fields action tells me it's created and has type text area, however, in the Connect site the field shows as a text field and entry is limited to 254 chars.
