7.5 SP1 - Splitting IPs breaks application server SSL

Dear All

I've been pulling my hair out on this for the last couple of days and am desperately seeking help.

I have split the appplication and edge servers to allow users to connect to alternative ports by following the instructions at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/521/e5212700.html. This works as advertised, but breaks SSL for the application server, which was working flawlessly before.

If I change the custom.ini file to not require SSL, I can log on by going to http://externalservername/, which will redirect me to http://externalservername/admin[...]

When enforcing SSL, if I go to http://externalservername/, I get a redirect to https://internalservername/

Going directly to the encrypted location at https://externalservername, I get presented with the correct certificate as installed, but then the connection just breaks. No content is served back to my browser. IE gives me the standard "Cannot display the webpage" error, Firefox will just show a blank page.

I really want to get SSL back up and running, IMO passwords should never be transmitted unencrypted.

I have actually set up the server from scratch, taking extra care to get all the settings right and am still seeing the same problem. I started with 7.5.0 on Windows 2003 Server and am now on 7.5.1 / Windows 2008 R2.

Thanks for your input.
