Clustering

Could you please help me with a little issue?

I have configured two origin servers in cluster. Then I configured one edge server which  communicated successfully with the origin cluster. When I tried to add another edge server (not in cluster), it was not able to communicate with the origin and also the first one stopped communicating (???). What might have happened? Is that mandatory both edge servers to be configured in cluster for the communication to happen with an origin cluster, or there is a special procedure that I am missing?

Re: Clustering

Does your License have multiple servers enabled on it?  What is the server quota?
You can find this in your license file that you download during the installation/configuration.  It is in text format, but you can rename it to license.xml and open in IE or Firefox to get a more user friendly view.

Re: Clustering

I get

<quota quota-id="server-limit-quota" used="0" limit="3" soft-limit="3">
<acl-type>account</acl-type>
<date-begin>2009-01-07T10:13:40.313+00:00</date-begin>
<date-end>3000-01-01T00:00:00.237+00:00</date-end>
</quota>

Re: Clustering

Paste your custom.ini file of origins and of both the edge servers.
Also, provide us with the DNS mappings for edge server's fqdn and the load balancer's fqdn of the origin.

Re: Clustering

Bizarre....this looks correct.

Do you see multiple edge listed under console?
External name in the console should coincide with the FCS_EDGE_HOST's value in config.ini on Edge.

I hope that the DNS mappings are correct. At user end, FQDN of connect should map to ip addr of their respective edge.
And on edge, IP addr of origin/NLB should map to the connect url.

Re: Clustering

Hi Cilic, it's because the license only has a 3 server limit on it.  See my post Post #2, and the response (post #3).  You can't have 4 servers running with a 3 server qouta.  The server will get shut down automatically.

Re: Clustering

I have a two servers limit quata and I am able to install one primary and at least four EDGE servers.
Are you sure that we need a license for EDGE servers? In the installation manual when the requirements for the primary server are lister they request a license, but for the EDGE server there is nothing about license...because in the end we manage everything on the primary server and not on the EDGE.  Since the EDGE does not request any license when you install it I think there is no requirement for that.

On EDGE servers there is no Connect server it is just the Flash media server.
