curriculum showing out of order to users

I am having a strange problem where some users are seeing their curriculum path out of order.

So the path goes Course A , Course B, Quiz 1, Course C, Course D, Quiz 2 and so on.  All are required so they must be worked in order.

But for some users they are showing up out of order but still locked correctly.  So their path might say Course A, Course B, Course C, Quiz 1, etc

They have to realize that they need to click on  quiz 1 instead of course C or whatever.

Any insights?  It's not happening to all people just some.
