After a few moments of speaking - very loud static

I am trying to record sessions with one speaker, but after a few moments the loudest static comes up and doesnt stop.  This is louder than any voice and just keeps going. 

Ive gone through the mic setting wizard several times, tried to enable and disable every function.  I have also tried at various location, different machines and different mics. 

Any ideas?

We had this and it came down to two things (sorry, I can't recall which one it was and I'm not at work to check)....the headset in use...and the soundcard.

The headset being used had a USB connection, but it also had standard headphone jacks. I'm fairly sure the issue was this headset and changing to a purely USB headset resolved it.

If not, you might want to find some time to test other headset on that computer and see if there is issues with the soundcard.
