Adobe Connect Pro 7.5 and beyond

Our business is deciding whether to pay the yearly maintenance and support fees for Adobe Connect Pro or let them lapse.  This entitles us to support from a third party (which has been used minimally) but more importantly upgrades (which have also been used minimally).  We only use the Training module in Adobe Connect Pro, so are trying to weigh up the benefit of having access to upgrades and paying a yearly amount versus just upgrading when we really need to (the downside being if we let the licensing lapse apparently we have to re-license from scratch which is about 5 times the cost of the yearly fee).

So the main factor in making this decision is "what features does Adobe Connect Pro 7.5" introduce over what's already there? (in particular in regards to the Training module).  I realise it's in Beta but surely there is a summary of key proposed features?

Is there also a high level road map for the product that anyone is aware of?

Appreciate any feedback.

Re: Adobe Connect Pro 7.5 and beyond

Hi fernwood,

Unfortunately, all of the beta participants would have had to sign an Non-disclosure agreement and wouldn't be able to comment on this forum.

I'm not able to say anything at this point - but please stay tunes.  We'll have all of the details on connectusers.com as soon as we can.

Re: Adobe Connect Pro 7.5 and beyond

I just was emailed from Adobe that 7.5 is now available. But I cannot find a link on their 'licensed users' update page. Any word on when the new version will be available for us on-site installed folks? BTW, here is abbreviated 'what's new' list:

The new version of Acrobat Connect Pro will integrate with any audio conferencing provider, allowing organizations to leverage existing investments. Telephone audio can be recorded along with a Web conference and streamed to VoIP-only meeting participants.

Increased webinar capacity will enable users to engage up to 80,000 participants

Further enhancements to security and compliance functionality in Acrobat Connect Pro includes more secure desktop sharing that offers increased control and enables regulation compliance.

With this release, Adobe will offer a new implementation model. In addition to current hosted and on-premise deployment options, Acrobat Connect Pro will be available as a managed service, offering customers the ability to outsource IT support while realizing the benefits of security and control.

Other key areas of additional functionality include: native support of PDF that offers advanced document controls and improved workflow through increased integration with Adobe Acrobat; functionality that enables users to schedule and manage Acrobat Connect Pro meetings directly from Lotus Notes; easy account migration for installed customers who wish to change deployment configurations; and certification that offers on-premise customers the ability to run Acrobat Connect Pro on VMware infrastructure. Additionally, work is currently underway on the Acrobat Connect Pro Mobile application, which will enable meeting participation from mobile devices. The first devices that Adobe is working to enable are the Apple iPhone and iPod touch.
