Captivate 4 and the Mac
I have to ask (being a Mac user and all) that a comment 3.12 in to this video....
http://captivating.podbean.com/2008/08/ … vangelist/
...kinda hinted at a Mac version.
Silke Fleischer hinted at it also....
http://blogs.adobe.com/silke.fleischer/ … tivat.html
But Captivate 4 appears to be Windows only?
Can anything be said about a Mac version?
Cheers,
Phil

Wish I could find something, but I wouldn't hold your breath for it.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
Unless Adobe decides to rewrite Captivate from the ground up, I don't see how there could be a Mac version. As of the Captivate 3 version it still relies heavily on Windows' DirectX. No simple conversion for Mac.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
My suggestion is to let Adobe know you want Captivate for Mac :)

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
Been there, repeatedly done that....even signed on to try to be a part of the Captivate 4 beta testing and dropped lots of Mac hints.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
You can run Captivate CS4 on a Mac, see here: http://www.matthewbibby.com/blog/captiv … -on-a-mac/
Also, the Mac application 'ScreenFlow' is worth checking out. Not a Captivate replacement but great in its own way :)
Cheers,
Matt.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
That's not running Captivate on a Mac...it's running Captivate in Windows that is running on a Mac. There is a difference!
I already have Captivate under BootCamp on my Mac, but the question was about a version that allowed you to screen capture the Mac environment. Even the post you reference ends with a suggestion people ask Adobe for a Mac version.
Re screenflow...yes, it is very cool...but very different also. It doesn't have a lot of the features of Captivate.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
It is running Captivate in Windows on a Mac - you are right, there is a difference. I use Captivate in this way often and find that it is a workable option if you need to use Captivate - which I do. Obviously a native version of Captivate would be ideal, however I don't know that it is something we will see anytime soon. Sorry I didn't realize your question was about capturing your Mac environment. I wonder if as a workaround you could capture a basic screencast in screenflow or jing and export to Captivate?
It is also worth noting that Tech-Smith were looking for beta testers for Camtasia last month: http://visuallounge.techsmith.com/2009/ … camta.html

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
Captivate for Mac is coming! The Captivate Page on Facebook says this:
" Captivate for Mac is coming! From RJ Jacquez via Twitter "Just finished a Captivate Q&A session, lots of great Qs, including Captivate on a Mac? By now it's publicly known that we are working on it!"
Good news for you Mac-Cap users!

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
Indeed...but "coming"?....so's christmas! ;-)
Do I sound impatient? Yes! Actually it will be great to have it on the Mac side. There are indeed a number of great capture tools on the Mac, like SnapzPro etc, but nothing really compares.
Now if only Presenter worked in Mac Office and the world might be perfect ;-)

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
I have an ideal where you can Captivate what you are doing on a Mac.
1st turn on the Screen Sharing under the System Preferences, Sharing (in the Internet & Network section) which is a VNC server (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Network_Computing)
download the free viewer from www.tightvnc.com/ for windows
connect to your Mac with the vnc client.
run Captivate on the windows and capture what is done in the vnc client.

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
That would involve two computers! You can't VNC under Windows on a Mac *to* the Mac side of your machine....so you've have to do it from a second computer.
As already stated, there's a beta of a Mac version under testing, so the answer is to be patient ;-)

Re: Captivate 4 and the Mac
Captivate for Mac has been out for quite some time now. You can buy it at www.adobe.com/products/captivate/ or as part of the eLearning Suite or Technical Communications Suite.
