Design considerations for building engaging virtual learning

Thu, Nov 6, 2014, 10:00 AM

It’s a fact; the typical “webinar” is far from an engaging learning experience.  As many people have discovered moving from the physical to the virtual classroom is not a simple matter of plugging the PowerPoint into the web rather than the overhead projector.  An effective virtual classroom has to be designed in a significantly different manner than creating material for the physical classroom.

In this session you will learn how 3GS leveraged techniques and approaches from the broadcast media to bring new thinking to the design of training events.  The broadcast media has long made it their job to engage listeners who can easily switch channel or walk away.  3GS has proved that many of these communication and program design approaches can be adopted for great benefit into our world of training.

In this session you will learn:

•    The 3 big reasons that learners don’t engage in the virtual classroom – and what to do about them

•    How the broadcast media captures our attention, even with content for which we would normally have little interest or time

•    Why currently accepted approaches to training have been going in the wrong direction for 200 years, and how we can now correct this

•    The 5 keys to designing training for the new and virtual world

•    The way in which learning and development professionals must transition to the new role of architects and enablers of continuous and blended learning experiences

During the session 3GS will share their “7C” approach to designing for the virtual classroom.  Founded upon the techniques that are used by the broadcast media the 7C approach is a highly pragmatic approach to rethinking, re-architecting, and redesigning training for today’s virtual learner.

The session will provide a powerful vision of the future and will offer a series of pragmatic approaches and tips that you will be able to immediately implement to design highly engaging virtual learning experiences.
