Meeting Focus

One of the big issues for presenters of virtual training or events is that it's often impossible to tell if the audience is listening to what you are saying.

In a real meeting I can see if people are nodding off, or playing with their Blackberry/iPhone, or are having side conversations and can ask them to pay attention. But in a virtual meeting, this is almost impossible to do.

GoToMeeting has a great feature that can detect if the application loses focus for a specific user (i.e. another window is covering the meeting or the cursor is being used in another window). This would be a great feature to add to Connect Pro.

So many times, users are checking their Outlook Inbox or responding to IM messages when they should be paying attention and it would be great for Hosts to know when they are losing their audience.

Our free PODzilla product allows a host to see if a user has minimized the meeting (since we report the meeting height as a percentage of desktop height and this goes to zero if the meeting is minimized) but it would be great to know if the application has lost focus.

Would this be a feature that others would like to see implemented in ACP?

Re: Meeting Focus

Very cool idea Terry.

This would be a welcome addition to the attendee pod.  In fact, Adobe could make a big leap here in making the attendee pod more 'avatar-like' to provide even more feedback to presenters.  Those little human figure icons could be given states - some involuntary as you suggest for lost focus and some voluntary for approval, disapproval, boredom, etc.

Great suggestion.

Re: Meeting Focus

This would be fantastic for true metrics. Has there been any progress on this anywhere?

Re: Meeting Focus

Hi Trevor,

Nobody has yet funded the development of such a tool but we are now in a position to build it if the need exists. We are launching a new product called FLEXam this week that allows Live Proctoring of Moodle Exams and Quizzes inside of Adobe Connect.

This tool allows a remote proctor to monitor the webcams of up to 100 participating students and the system automatically notifies the proctor if the participant walks away from the camera, changes the meeting room window size, moves the mouse to another program, has not moved the mouse or typed on the keyboard for a predetermined time etc.

As you can see, it is now entirely possible to monitor the activities of attendees inside of Connect, in real time while the meeting is going on and alos to create post-event reports of this data. We're doing it for a specific use case of proctoring exams but the application could be built to do this in a more generalized way if someone had the budget. If you can dream it, we can build it.
