Synchronizing animations

I can't figure out why this just isn't working.  I have text builds on my slide, and I want to synchronize the audio to the appearance of the bullets.  I thought that's what this tool would do, but I get "no timings to edit on this slide"... does it have something to do with the fact that I have one audio file, not individual files for each slide?  I find that hard to believe, but...
