Can I retrieve a unique ID for users through the Sync Connector?

Is there a way to get an ID for a user that is unique throughout the Connect server? I'm writing custom pods in Flex using the SyncConnector component.

The userID property seems to generate a number based on order of entry to the room. The name property references something that can be changed by the user.

I would ideally like to be able to recognise a user no matter what they have set their name to or which room they are in... Or no matter how may times they have logged in to or out of a room. Some kind of universal ID or database primary key.

Can this be done?
