ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly

this appears to be a proxy-related issue which prevents a user from attending a Connect 6 SPx meeting
ever heard about it?
it is reported here as well
thank you very much,

Re: ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly

We encountered that on a reasonably frequent basis with external participants joining our webinars.  After unsuccessfully trying a number of things (including adjusting .ini files to allow tunneling over port 80 instead of the default 1935), what really made the difference for us was to implement SSL encryption.

A colleague of mine at another firm was a good test case as he was NEVER able to successfully connect to an Adobe Connect session.  Once we were using SSL over port 443, he was able to connect without any difficulty at all.

Our successful connection rate jumped from the 85-90% range to all but two people out of the last 500 or so external participants.  And then it's usually because they have their firewall configured to disallow RTMP traffic completely.  And there's not much you can do about that except have them ask their IT staff if they can allow it.

Network firewalls and proxy servers seem to play more nicely with traffic coming across port 443 that is encrypted and the source of the traffic has been authenticated.

Hope that helps.

Re: ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly

thank you very much Paul.
In our case it was a bit simplier, as RTMP traffic over port 80 was already allowed over the customer LAN so we just had to implement 80 port tunneling on customer installation to get it going.
I see though that secure rtmps is more likely to be accepted from customers' firewalls, and that you're right when saying SSL is going to make the difference. Our concern is about performance though, is SSL going to need more bandwidth to mantain the same user experience?

Re: ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly

We haven't noticed any detectable degradation in performance since switching to SSL.  I had been told to expect slightly higher latency due to the added encryption of the traffic but so far it appears to be a non-issue.

Tunneling over port 80 was an improvement for us too, although we ultimately decided to go SSL because we still had a fair number of external participants (outside of our organization) who couldn't connect even when tunneling over port 80.  If your audience is primarily internal or you have a known audience of external participants, tunneling over 80 will likely be enough.

Best of luck to you.
