PPTX and PPT convert failure

We're hosted as 

A host user emailed me to say that he was unable to upload/share a 3-slide PPTX file, or the PDF file saved from that PowerPoint slideshow.  I reproduced the problem; after trying to convert the uploaded files a pretty generic "the conversion failed" message appeared.  I reproduced this several times, as  I tried to figure out what could be wrong with such a small PPTX presentation.  I also created an entirely new one slide PPTX file with no graphics and that too failed to convert.  All of this happened Sept 11 2018 roughly between 12 Noon and 1PM ET. (Boston, US).

Sometime later, say by 1:30 PM ET, everything began working fine.

Is there any way to find out what happened on the server side during that time period?  Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with uploaded file conversion errors that resolve themselves eventually?
