Getting Started

The Adobe Connect MP3 Player is a small flash file (SWF) that streams music into your Adobe Connect meeting room. Adobe Connect also supports streaming MP3 files directly from a Share pod without using a player like this. The biggest difference is that the MP3 player gives participants the ability to control the music - selecting new songs, pausing the track, adjusting the volume, etc....

Downloading the MP3 Player

You can download the MP3 Player for Adobe Connect here

Loading the MP3 Player into your Adobe Connect room

After downloading the player, you should have a ZIP file that contains two files:

  • index.swf: This is the flash-based player
  • songs.xml: This is an XML file that contains a list of songs to play

You can upload the ZIP file directly to you Adobe Connect room by opening up a new share pod, clicking on the arrow beside 'Share My Screen' and selecting 'Share Document'.

Select 'Browse My Computer' and navigate to the ZIP file.

Note: You will need either Host or Presenter privileges to upload a file to a share pod.

The ZIP file will upload and then be converted by Adobe Connect. By default, music will start playing automatically.

Changing the songs and settings

The XML file including in the ZIP package determines which songs to play and where to find them. It also controls some of the options. You can change the existing songs by replacing the links in the XML file with links to your own music in MP3 format. You can open the XML file in any text editor - though an XML editor is recommended. Be sure to keep the same format.

To add you own songs (or replace the existing tracks), add your own URL's, track names, and artist names in the XML file. You can add as many songs as you'd like.

Troubleshooting

You may find that the MP3 Player is unable to load the songs because it can't find them. A simple option is to upload your music to your Adobe Connect server. This way, you can use them in a share pod natively or with the MP3 player. Click on the new content button from the Adobe Connect Central homepage.

Follow the steps on the following screen to upload the file to the Adobe Connect server. After you've uploaded the file, keep the browser window open and head over to the 'Set Permissions' setting. Click 'Customize' to create custom settings and then set the file to allow public viewing.

With the browser window still open, click on the 'Download Content' tab to get the URL you'll need for the XML file. You should see a link for the output file on this screen. Right click on the link and copy it to your clipboard.

MPORTANT: You need the output file link for the XML file. The custom URL you created or the URL that was generated when uploading the file will not work.

Now you can paste that link into your XML file. Repeat as necessary, then XIP the XML file up with the SWF file and upload it to your room.

Settings

There are two settings that can be adjusted in the XML file.

  • autoplay: This setting determines whether the MP3 player should automatically start playing as soon as it's been loaded. Setting this to true, will cause the first song on the list to automatically be loaded and played immediately after the MP3 player has been loaded. Setting this to false will require individual users to press the play button before music starts to play
  • hostcontrols: This setting determines whether or not the pod should have host controls enabled. Host controls allow for a synchronized experience. Participants will not have the ability to change songs or pause the music - though they will be able to control their own volume. Hosts and presenter can force the music to be playing or stopped for all participants. If this is set to true, it will respect the 'SYNC' button on the bottom of the pod. If it is pressed (which is the default), the host controls will appear. If it is not, the host controls will not appear and individual participants will be able to control their own music. If hostcontrols is set to false, then participatns will always be able to control their own music regardless of the SYNC button.
