Can I share the screen AND simultaneously output to a projector?

I was using a Macbook Pro to project my desktop into a small conference room via projector when I was asked if I could also allow outside attendees to follow along via Adobe Connect. I opened the browser and logged into the Connect room with no problem, but when I tried to share my screen it interrupted the projector output! Apparently I could do one or the other, but not both at the same time.

Is this correct and, if so, is there no way to make it work? Is there a configuration setting that would allow for this? Would a PC perform any differently than a Mac? What if I established the Connect screen share first, then the projector. Would that have made any difference?
