Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

Has anyone else experienced issues with Windows Vista machines and Adobe Connect? We have gone 6 months without any issues with Vista, it seems like some kind of Win update has caused problems with our VoIP. The Adobe Connect Meeting plug-in runs very slow. Like turning off the talk button and your voice still works, audio cutting in and out, resizing windows takes 5-10 seconds to adjust. High Latency, very little green showing in LED. Even, disconnecting and reconnecting to the room when nobody else has problems. Something has happened, and is causing major issues for us at the start of the new school semester.

We are running our own Enterprise license on a load balanced system running 6.2.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

Hi Corey,

I'm not seeing this personally, also on C6 SP2.  I'm running on a slightly different Vista set-up though (Vista running as a VM in VMWare Fusion on a MacBook Pro), so our comparison is probably not apples to apples.

Sorry you are having problems, MF

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

I've not seen this issue either and I run vista. Have you tried to disable Aero along with other items running that could be causing performance issues during your meetings?

Maybe start up in diagnostic mode so that your start up items arent loading and check to make sure it isn't software that's pre-loaded causing issues.

Good luck.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

Have just installed a new Dell Vostra 400 desktop with Vista.  Much difficulty with Adobe hosted account.  Some meeting rooms load, but slowly, then moving from one layout to another takes forever.  One meeting room won't load at all.  All work fine on older machines on same network with XP Pro,  Disabled popup blocker, no improvement. Disabled viruscan, same. Disabled both, same.  Ran "Test Meeting Connection" several times and each time it gets hung up on No. 3-Connection Speed Test.  All other internet connections work beautifully.  Had purchased this computer to use with Connect Pro. Same problem using Firefox and IE.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thomas

One more thing:  A Presenter file posted at acrobat.com played fine.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

Reported the problems above to my reseller, Clarix.  Response: "As far as the Vista issue is concerned, it is a known issue at Adobe and they are currently working on a fix. I dont have any time lines as to when a fix-it will be available though."

Surprised someone from Adobe who monitors this forum hasn't commented on this "fix."

So, let's be careful moving up to Vista right now.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

After speaking with Thomas, we wanted to clear up the reports of a bug.  There was a miscommunication resulting in the proceeding post.  There have been reports of slowness with Vista, but not pertaining to Connect or any other specific application.  The more common cause, pointed to previously in this thread, is Aero.  Aero is Vista's new GUI interface, and is very taxing on the system.

Below are steps on how to turn this functionality off.  Doing so frees allot of system resources which should help to improve performance.

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Personalization.
3. Under Personalization, click Change the color scheme.
4. In the Appearance Settings dialog, click Windows Vista Basic, and then click OK. Or, if you prefer a Windows 2000-style interface, click Windows Standard, and then click OK.

There are further steps beyond these for troubleshooting performance issues.  If after disabling Aero, you continue to encounter performance issues I recommend contacting Adobe support directly, or your partner for assistance in troubleshooting the issue.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

Have just been informed by Clarix that my entry of 2-12 quoting a Clarix rep regarding Vista issues is incorrect. I wish to withdraw it. It resulted from a miscommunication between us.

Re: Windows Vista and Adobe Connect - PROBLEMS

yes I have . . .
try this
Disable User Account Control (UAC) the Easy Way on Win 7 or Vista

I’ve previously written about a way to enable or disable UAC from the command line. This is an easier method that you can use to do the same thing from the GUI interface in either Windows 7 or Vista. To recap my earlier article, UAC is ANNOYING.

Note: Disabling UAC will lead to a less secure system, so be warned.

Disable UAC on Windows Vista

Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:
uac1.png

On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC)”, and then click on the OK button.

You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.

Disable UAC on Windows 7

Windows 7 makes it much easier to deal with UAC settings, and in fact you don’t have to completely disable UAC if you don’t want to. Just type UAC into the start menu or Control Panel search box.

You can simply drag the slider up or down, depending on how often you want to be alerted.
Windows 7 UAC Settings
If you drag it all the way down to the bottom, you’ll have disabled it entirely.
