Talk Button Question

RESOLVED

I'll be 100% upfront, I have a Trainer who uses Connect Pro for trainings and constantly complains about the audio.  I have five other Trainers who never have an issue, so I suspect the problem is not with Connect Pro  :)

The biggest problem the Trainer is having right now is the Talk Button "Freezing".  After getting all the info from her I finally figured out that she was describing the Talk Button graying out for some users.  To me it sounds like someone is changing the Voice Options from Voice On- Multiple Speakers to  Voice On - One Speaker or  Voice Off .  She says she knows about the Voice Options had say it is set to Voice On- Multiple Speakers. In these training all the participants are Presenters so they all do have access to the Voice Options.

So I am stuck.  Is there anything else that could be causing the Talk Button to change in to the grayed out mode for users OTHER than changing the Voice Options?  Is there a limit to how many people can be pressing the Talk button at the same time perhaps?

Any ideas would be helpful!  Thank you in advance.

Re: Talk Button Question

Participants cannot talk by default, they must be granted rights by the meeting host.  How the the trainer enabling students to speak?

By granting each individual the right to talk via the attendee list?  via enhanced participant rights?  by promoting users to presenter?  By choosing Grant Microphones to all?  Again, by default if a user is a participant in the meeting the Talk button will be grayed out.  Presenters and hosts can speak...maybe this is what is going on?

This tutorial walks through the workflow for enabling participants to speak:

Hope this helps,

Re: Talk Button Question

The rooms are set to auto promote all participants to Presenter when they enter the room.

The complaint is that a participant is able to talk and then all of a sudden the Talk button is gray and they are unable to press it, then it changes back to active again.  I am told no one is changing any of the settings during the meeting, but I'm not sure I believe that.

My next troubleshooting step is to attend the next class to see what happens...

Re: Talk Button Question

i'm guessing it's a user error.  they're seeing the dropdown for the audio options and assuming that things like 'voice off', 'voice on - multiple speakers', etc... apply only to them (an individual user).

Re: Talk Button Question

I would guess this as well, I have seen a few cases where people mistake this function to "only" affect them selves. So nowadays I always warn new users about that function when introducing them to the software.

IMHO this should only be available to the Host or at least give a warning when enabling Voice Off...

Cheers!

Re: Talk Button Question

ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Well I figured it out...

I was told the room was set for Auto Promote Participants but it wasn't set up that way.   The Host was manually giving Participants permission to talk but then going full screen with her slides and not watching the Participants list.  So as people showed up late or left and rejoined the room they lost permission.  So it's just a training issue...*Sigh*

Back to work people...nothing to see here!  :)

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Re: Talk Button Question

Welp I finally experienced the Talk button graying out issue personally.  It happened when 7  or 8 people all pressed the talk button at the same time.  All these people were manually promoted by myself to Presenter and they were having a discussion and all pressed the button at the same time.  I lost the talk button and so did a few other people.  I had to chat to everyone to let go of the Talk button and as soon as they did I got the button back.  The room was set up Voice On- Multiple Speakers, this was the first thing I checked and we had been talking amongst two or three people at a time all day without issue.

So my question is: Is there a limit to haw many people can press the Talk button at the same time?
