Wireless presentation remote functionality issues
Hi all. This is my first post as I just joined the community today. Great place!
I've successfully piloted this software in my company this week to a 40+ person global audience. Overall, everything went very well. I did however notice some things that were strange that I need to sort out for a larger-scale virtual meeting in two weeks.
One of these things was how to use a presenter's remote to control a PPT presentation in a share pod. It's been tough doing a search here on this forum as "remote" has so many meanings to this software so I only found one post.
My configuration:
Host machine, Apple iMac. It doubles as the master presenter machine. We have each presenter appear on-camera and on-microphone in one room. I act as the "technical director" and change layouts and facilitate open discussions for the presenters. We have over 40 participants locally and abroad.
My problem:
After switching layouts to one with a shared PPT, the wireless remote (we're using the Keyspan remote for Frontrow), does nothing. The left and right arrows on the keyboard mimic this unresponsiveness and do nothing. Now, my workaround. If after changing to this layout, I double-click the LEFT arrow inside the PPT share pod, now both the remote and keyboard can be used to navigate.
Anyone have any experience with this? Is it the same on the PC as it is on the Mac? Any other suggestions on how to get the remote/keyboard to be used to advance the slides other than my kludgey workaround?
Thanks in advance!
My System Information:
Connect Pro Meeting / Macintosh

Re: Wireless presentation remote functionality issues
Just get a wireless mouse. A simple presenter tool won't do the trick - we've tried. We got a wireless mouse the the presenter can use anywhere in the room. We got one with a laser pointer, too (Adobe doesn't capture the laser point, but it is nice to have).
There are many on the market - from $40 - 140. Search for 'wireless presenter mouse' in your favorite search tool and find one compatible for your Mac.

Re: Wireless presentation remote functionality issues
Thanks for the response Carri. Our meetings are highly produced so the host/presenter room is kind of like a television studio with support people sorting questions live and helping the live presenter. My role is to manage the interface and give the least amount of work for the presenter. Believe it or not, having the presenter click the arrow button is not preferred. So this is why I am trying to get the wireless presenter remote to work better. It does work, I just have to perform that little workaround as mentioned in my 1st post.
Can we hear from any PC users? Is this the PC behavior as well- that the keyboard left and right arrow (and presentation remotes) do not take focus of the PPT share pod previous-next slide controls?
Thanks!

Re: Wireless presentation remote functionality issues
I use a PC and have had the same issue. My workaround was investing in a wireless mouse and keyboard. I usually use the mouse, but sometimes I use the wireless keyboard, that way all I need to do is press the right arrow button on the keyboard to progress the slides. You do have to select the share pod with the PPT to progress slides, though I only click the share pod itself (clicking anywhere within the share pod works), not the "next" arrow button as that takes a second longer than just leaving the mouse cursor in one area and then clicking the share pod when it comes back into view.

Re: Wireless presentation remote functionality issues
I had this same issue: How to get a wireless mouse to advance an uploaded powerpoint slide WITHOUT the presenter having to move the cursor to the arrow on the Connect Pod.
Get a Logitech MX Air mouse
You can bind any of the buttons (except the left and right main buttons) to a keystroke.
Load the Setpoint Control Software (I am using ver. 6.00.84)
Under Button Settings choose the button you want to advance the slide with Under Select Button, then under Select Task choose Other. A drop down list window will open choose Keystroke Assignment. After you press OK a Specify Keystroke box will show up. Click your mouse in the box and then press the right arrow. Now do the same for the left arrow, this will back up one slide.
This works great for me. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the post wmccurdy. Was this on a Mac or on a PC?

On a PC, but from reading the documentation it should work the same on both platforms.
