Coaching trainers for better virtual classroom sessions

Wed, Apr 1, 2015, 10:00 AM

Even the most experienced trainers can feel overwhelmed when delivering webinars or virtual online training sessions. Managing software functions, displaying content, delivering a clear verbal message all while engaging and responding to participants is understandably difficult-- but it doesn’t have to be.

The problem: what it takes to be good in a virtual online session isn’t natural or obvious—no one in able to run a successful virtual online session without preparation.  But there are so many details that need attention that the specifics of how to actually deliver the training with a live audience gets pushed to the bottom of the list!  What’s worse, the trainer might walk away from an unsatisfying session without being able to pinpoint what went wrong or what to do differently next time.  Unfortunately, the software and the learners become scapegoats when it’s the trainer’s skill that makes or breaks a session. The aim is  to make trainer skills development a priority by providing the guidance that is beneficial to everyone.

A committed coach and a super-focused and custom coaching program can quickly identify the mistakes that a trainer makes. Rather than leaving the trainer to flounder in the awkward and unknown, the coach helps him reframe his approach to connecting with learners and helps him use behavior, language, design, and delivery techniques appropriate for virtual online sessions. Coaches and trainers can see improvement in the very next virtual online session.
